Inflection AI is seeking a Member of Technical Staff, Backend to join their team in Palo Alto, California. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend software systems and infrastructure that support scalable enterprise applications and conversational AI platforms. You will contribute to building and operating distributed systems, developing cloud-based infrastructure, and ensuring system scalability, reliability, and availability. The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions and ensuring systems comply with security and data protection standards.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend software services and APIs.
- Build and operate distributed systems for real-time data processing and system workflows.
- Develop and maintain cloud-based and containerized backend infrastructure.
- Implement data storage, retrieval, and caching solutions using relational and non-relational databases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate functional requirements into backend system implementations.
- Develop internal tools, pipelines, and automation frameworks for CI/CD and monitoring.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot production issues, and implement improvements.
- Participate in incident response activities, including on-call rotations and root cause analysis.
- Ensure backend systems comply with security and data protection requirements.
- Document system architecture, design decisions, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, plus five years of progressive experience in software engineering or backend systems development.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree and three years of experience.
- Experience developing, testing, and maintaining backend software services and APIs for production applications.
- Experience designing and implementing distributed systems for scalable, high-availability applications.
- Experience with data storage technologies, including relational and/or non-relational databases.
- Experience deploying and operating backend systems in cloud-based or containerized environments.
- Experience monitoring, debugging, and resolving issues in production software systems.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate functional requirements into backend technical solutions.
