About the job
Glean is building the horizontal AI platform that powers how employees use AI at work, extending beyond Glean to tools like Copilot, Gemini, and ChatGPT. This role focuses on building the context platform and delivering rich, trustworthy experiences across various applications. The team is responsible for the end-to-end platform experience, including standards and tooling for REST APIs, SDKs, client libraries, agent SDKs and integrations, MCP servers, custom context (code, memory), and the supporting infrastructure and documentation. In a fast-paced startup environment, this involves working across multiple layers of the stack, from backend services to developer tools and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve Glean's REST API standards, including versioning, backward-compatibility, deprecation policy, and OpenAPI specification tooling.
- Design and ship new API endpoints for Glean's platform primitives (search, knowledge graph, chat, agent) as stable, well-documented developer surfaces.
- Build the API gateway layer, handling routing, authentication (OAuth2, API keys, OIDC), rate limiting, quota management, and per-tenant usage metering.
- Define reusable platform primitives on top of Glean's horizontal layers (connectors, security/governance, knowledge graph, memory, model orchestration) for composition by internal teams and external partners.
- Work across backend services, developer tools, SDKs, and documentation in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Design, build, and evolve SDKs and client libraries for developers integrating with Glean.
- Instrument API usage to track adoption metrics, error patterns, and latency SLOs.
Requirements
- Experience with building and evolving APIs, SDKs, and developer tools.
- Familiarity with API gateway concepts, including routing, authentication, rate limiting, and metering.
- Understanding of API standards like OpenAPI and versioning strategies.
- Experience with backend services and distributed systems.
- Ability to work across different layers of the technology stack.
- Experience in a fast-moving startup environment.
