About the job

Datadog's People Technology team is seeking a People Systems Developer to design and deploy AI-native workflows that will revolutionize how employees are hired, developed, and supported. This is a hands-on role where you will move beyond traditional HRIS configuration to prototype and productionize AI-enabled systems across various HR functions. You will work with high autonomy, collaborate directly with stakeholders, and deliver solutions that significantly enhance the People team's operations. Success in this role involves reducing manual People workflows by at least 20% through AI-enabled automation and intelligent system design.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and implement AI-enabled workflows and tools, progressing from proofs of concept to full production and adoption.
  • Rapidly prototype using LLMs, APIs, and automation frameworks, and deploy validated ideas into secure, scalable production systems.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems such as Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, Snowflake, Jira, and Google Workspace.
  • Partner with stakeholders including People Analytics, HRBPs, IT, Legal, and Security to ensure solutions are usable, compliant, and adhere to responsible AI practices.
  • Evaluate AI tools and vendors through hands-on experimentation.
  • Facilitate the broader People team's adoption of AI effectively and responsibly.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or advanced automation.
  • Proven ability to build and integrate LLM-powered features or intelligent agents into production using leading Frontier models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini).
  • Hands-on experience with coding agents/CLIs (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor).
  • Strong API integration and workflow automation experience using tools like n8n, Zapier, or Workato.
  • Familiarity with HR systems such as Workday or Greenhouse is preferred.
  • Comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving, low-structure environment.
  • Ability to translate complex technical systems into clear, practical solutions for business stakeholders.
  • Skilled at using qualitative data to guide decisions, measure effectiveness, and iterate.
  • Thoughtful about privacy, governance, and responsible AI practices, particularly in sensitive HR contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools in daily workflows and refine AI-generated output.
