This hands-on role requires an engineer who cares about product outcomes, understands scalability, and can transform ambiguity into robust, trustworthy systems. You will be responsible for both traditional software services and AI-driven workflows, working directly within Microsoft Word to enhance contract drafting, review, and negotiation processes.

Spellbook is seeking a Software Engineer to join their team and contribute to the development of an AI copilot for transactional lawyers. This role involves working within a fast-paced, distributed environment to enhance lawyer workflows and build new features for the Spellbook application. You will leverage cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) from providers like OpenAI and Anthropic to improve application functionality, such as providing document review suggestions. Collaboration with product management and a focus on improving customer experience through the React application and Express/tRPC based API are key aspects of this position. You will also be responsible for improving performance, reliability, and addressing user feedback through bug fixes, as well as building and maintaining application infrastructure on AWS.
