Vectara is seeking a Platform Engineer to own the infrastructure that runs our deploy-anywhere platform. This role involves managing Kubernetes clusters for ML inference at scale, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and the observability stack. You will be hands-on, writing Helm charts and Terraform, debugging issues, and shipping backend service features. The position requires deploying across AWS, GCP, and on-premises environments, including air-gapped setups, and participating in an on-call rotation to support enterprise customers.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm) for AWS EKS, GCP GKE, and on-premises deployments.
- Own CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bazel, ArgoCD) and drive GitOps adoption.
- Deploy, scale, and optimize ML/NLP inference workloads.
- Build and improve observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry.
- Collaborate with Field Engineering to support customer PoCs and platform deployments.
- Contribute to backend services (Java 21, Python, gRPC) and platform features.
- Improve system reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
Requirements
- 2+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or backend infrastructure roles.
- Strong Kubernetes experience (deployment, debugging, scaling).
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm, or Pulumi).
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS preferred).
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java, with comfort contributing to backend codebases.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Bazel, ArgoCD, or similar).
- Solid fundamentals in Linux, networking, and distributed systems.
