About the job
Runpod is seeking a Head of Analytics and Business Intelligence to lead and grow its analytics function. This role will be instrumental in shaping how the company measures itself and ensures insights reach decision-makers. You will manage a team of analysts and BI practitioners, define the analytics roadmap, and serve as a senior analytics partner to various leadership teams including Product, Supply, Finance, Engineering, Security, and Go-to-Market. The position involves building metric definitions, models, and a self-serve layer to understand complex consumption-based and marketplace dynamics, ultimately driving company-level decisions through data.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of analysts and BI practitioners, including hiring, career development, prioritization, and raising the technical bar.
- Proactively drive company strategy from a data perspective by identifying key data levers, quantifying opportunities, and delivering actionable paths for leadership.
- Own and maintain Runpod's core metric layer, defining consistent metrics for utilization, retention, net revenue retention, margin, and marketplace supply/demand health.
- Set the analytics roadmap in partnership with Product, Finance, and GTM leadership, balancing reporting needs with impactful analysis.
- Drive analysis of consumption-based revenue and customer behavior, including cohort retention, expansion/churn, savings plan adoption, spot vs. reserved mix, and serverless workload economics.
- Build a self-serve analytics layer to empower stakeholders to answer routine questions independently.
- Partner closely with Data Engineering on modeling, data quality, freshness, and SOC 2 requirements for the analytics platform.
- Establish experimentation and measurement practices, including guardrails for result interpretation.
- Represent analytics in executive and board-level reporting, translating business questions into analysis and clear recommendations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or data science, with ownership of business-critical metrics and executive visibility.
- 3+ years of experience managing analytics or BI teams, with a proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining talent.
- Deep hands-on fluency in SQL and modern analytics engineering practices (e.g., dbt), with strong warehouse expertise.
- Experience with usage-based, consumption, or marketplace business models and their associated metrics (utilization, unit economics, supply/demand dynamics).
- Demonstrated ability to define a metric layer from scratch and drive organization-wide adoption.
- Strong judgment and urgency, prioritizing fast, directionally correct answers over delayed perfect ones.
- Ability to approach questions objectively, form data-driven views, and optimize for business best interests.
- Proven ability to thrive in startup environments as a proactive business partner.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of challenging assumptions with data while maintaining relationships.
- Ability to work effectively across Product, Finance, Data Engineering, Security, Go-to-Market, and Supply teams.
- Successful completion of a background check.
