Reflection is seeking a Data Product Counsel to lead legal support for teams developing data for frontier AI models and agentic search capabilities. This role involves navigating US and international legal regimes and regulations concerning data use for AI models and products, and translating them into actionable product roadmaps. You will partner with product, research, engineering, and safety teams to ensure responsible AI development and data access. This is a high-impact, build-stage role where you will design policies, review processes, and provide guidance to enable rapid progress while maintaining a strong compliance posture.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal contact for pre-training and data teams, advising on laws impacting AI data acquisition and utilization.
- Advise on legal and regulatory aspects of agentic and search-based product proposals.
- Provide legal advice on risks and compliance for AI data training, including IP, privacy, licensing, and AI regulation.
- Design and implement data integrity standards and processes for risk management in data use and acquisition.
- Develop policies with data and training teams to ensure models meet data provenance, tracking, and usage requirements.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement data controls for responsible model releases and compliance with data regulations.
- Advise on data considerations in commercial and strategic transactions, including partnerships and collaborations.
- Support the development of agentic capabilities, advising on legal and compliance requirements such as IP, safety, privacy, and AI regulation.
- Monitor and translate legal and regulatory developments from key authorities into practical guidance for leadership and operators.
Requirements
- J.D. and active bar membership (or in-house registration) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Approximately 10+ years of experience in product counseling and advising technology companies on legal risks, particularly in AI, cloud computing, semiconductors, advanced computing, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data centers, or similar sensitive technologies.
- Strong experience identifying and addressing complex legal issues related to product, regulatory, IP, commerce, and privacy.
- Experience advising on U.S. and international legal and regulatory matters applicable to AI products and data usage, including risk mitigation.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and take proactive steps in evolving legal landscapes.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal requirements to diverse teams.
- Prior experience at a high-growth technology company, AI lab, or cloud provider is ideal.
- Experience with agentic and/or search capabilities in AI development is a plus.
- Experience with open-source access technology is a bonus.
