About the job
NVIDIA's Seattle Robotics Lab is seeking a Senior Robotics Research Scientist to contribute to fundamental and applied robotics research across perception, planning, control, and learning. This role involves developing and integrating algorithms and models for robotic manipulation and loco-manipulation, aiming to transform research paradigms and transfer innovations into NVIDIA's robotics and simulation products. The scientist will play a pivotal role in achieving ambitious goals within the next 2-3 years, requiring exceptional research and engineering skills, a proven track record, and a team-first mentality. Collaboration with academic and product teams, as well as mentoring junior researchers, will be key aspects of this position.
Responsibilities
- Develop algorithms, models, and methods for robotic manipulation and loco-manipulation for industrial and household applications.
- Integrate developed methods into real-world robotic manipulation systems.
- Co-lead and contribute to multi-person research projects requiring diverse skills across robotics and machine learning.
- Engage with the academic community through publications, conferences, workshops, and code releases.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to transfer research into NVIDIA products.
- Mentor interns and junior research scientists and engineers.
Requirements
- PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 3 years of research experience post-PhD (5+ years preferred).
- Deep knowledge of robotics and AI theory and practice, with an interest in real-world applications.
- Proven track record of research excellence published in top robotics and AI conferences/journals.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional programming skills in Python.
- Familiarity with C++, CUDA, and Warp is a plus.
- Fluency in modern deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and JAX.
- Significant experience with robotics frameworks (e.g., ROS2) and physics simulation frameworks (e.g., Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, MuJoCo).
- Comfort working with simulation and real-world robotics complexities, including debugging physics simulators, renderers, hardware, communication systems, and designing model training/evaluation workflows.
