The Software Engineer, New Grad will join Harvey's Engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers to build AI-powered systems that serve leading law firms and enterprises. This role offers an accelerated path to ownership, contributing production code to features spanning retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation from day one, developing rapidly at the intersection of AI and professional services.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards.
- Use AI-assisted development tools daily and own the quality of all shipped code.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
- Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development.
- Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to platform evolution.
- Potentially work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduating either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
- Able to work from New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027.
- Previous internship experience is required.
- Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
- Demonstrated decisiveness and a bias toward action, with experience building something from start to finish.
- Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language and find the simplest effective solution.
- Proactively seek feedback and continue to improve work beyond initial completion.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools and curious about building LLMs into coding workflows.
