About the job

Harvey is transforming how legal and professional services operate by combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise. This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point, with strong product-market fit and world-class investor support. The team moves fast, takes ownership, and is deeply committed to the mission, operating with intensity and pushing for excellence. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Security Engineering team, you will be a founding member, defining and driving the technical strategy for identity and access at Harvey. This includes customer authentication, internal employee access, and how access adapts as needs change. You will operate at the boundary of security, infrastructure, and product engineering, turning requirements into durable identity platforms and exceptional user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Define Harvey's multi-year technical strategy for identity, authentication, authorization, and privileged access.
  • Design and build complex identity systems from greenfield, owning them in production.
  • Lead the architecture and execution of cross-functional initiatives for access management at scale.
  • Extend the identity model to non-human and agentic identities for authentication and audibility.
  • Serve as the technical authority for identity and access architecture, guiding design reviews and roadmaps.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience building and operating production software with cross-team impact.
  • Deep expertise in identity and access engineering domains (authentication, federation, authorization, entitlement modeling, privileged access).
  • Fluency with AI, using AI-assisted development tools and designing agentic workflows.
  • Experience designing identity or authorization platforms, libraries, or abstractions for other engineering teams.
  • Experience delivering foundational systems with meaningful adoption and positive outcomes.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure, GCP, AWS) and modern distributed-system patterns.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder alignment.
