As a Product Backend Engineer, you will design and operate backend systems that turn cutting-edge AI capabilities into seamless, dependable product experiences, building secure, multi-tenant services and orchestrating interactions with LLMs and agentic tools.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product to prioritize customer-focused work and deliver reliable features quickly.
- Design and own backend services and APIs powering web applications, workflows, and integrations.
- Model and manage data in Postgres and related data stores for low-latency, reliable user experiences.
- Build secure, multi-tenant, permissions-aware systems with auditing for enterprise and government customers.
- Implement backend features and workflows using LLMs and agentic tools, orchestrating calls to AI systems.
- Collaborate with frontend, product, and design partners to shape solutions and define API contracts.
- Add logging, metrics, and tracing for service observability and debuggability.
- Improve performance and scalability by profiling bottlenecks and tuning services.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 15+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production web applications or SaaS products.
- Track record of building fast-growing SaaS products using PWA technologies.
- Track record of shipping highly intuitive products with strong attention to detail.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with a modern web framework (e.g., FastAPI or Flask).
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres).
- Solid understanding of API design, authentication/authorization, background job patterns, and error handling.
- Experience building for Cloud Infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Comfort operating services in production using logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts, including on-call rotation.
