The Head of Technical Accounting and Reporting will lead technical accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls within a dynamic SaaS environment. This role requires close collaboration with Product, Sales, Legal, Partnerships, and Accounting teams to ensure accurate accounting under U.S. GAAP and IFRS for new products, pricing, and commercial arrangements. It's a hands-on leadership position for someone who can bring structure and scalability to accounting operations and prepare the company for public readiness.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert on complex accounting matters, researching and documenting positions in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
- Prepare technical accounting memos on significant transactions like business combinations, stock-based compensation, leases, and revenue arrangements.
- Assess accounting implications of new partnerships, products, and pricing with cross-functional teams and operationalize accounting conclusions.
- Monitor, assess, and implement new accounting standards and communicate their impact.
- Partner with external auditors and consultants on technical accounting inquiries.
- Evaluate accounting differences between U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
- Own accounting policies and design/implement related controls for leases, stock-based compensation, business combinations, and revenue recognition.
- Assess complex contracts and partner with Revenue Accounting to operationalize technical conclusions.
- Own the preparation and review of internal and external financial statements and footnote disclosures.
- Design, implement, and maintain a scalable internal control environment for SOX compliance and public-company readiness.
- Lead technical accounting and reporting workstreams for IPO readiness.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, driving improvements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare reporting and analysis for senior leadership, the board, investors, and lenders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and industry experience.
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606 revenue recognition) and working knowledge of IFRS.
- Prior experience in a SaaS, technology, or high-growth environment strongly preferred.
- Experience with technical accounting research and preparing technical memos.
- Working knowledge of internal controls and SOX.
- Experience supporting IPO readiness or public-company reporting is a strong plus.
- Strong understanding of technical accounting areas like business combinations, equity, stock-based compensation, leases, and revenue recognition.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable partnering with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
