Fieldguide is seeking a Senior Manager, Deployed Engineering to join their team. This role is a player-coach position, starting with hands-on involvement in customer deployments, writing production code, and solving complex technical challenges. As the team grows, the focus will shift towards leadership, but maintaining close proximity to the work. The Senior Manager will report to the CTO/co-founder and collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Customer leadership to build and scale the forward deployed engineering effort.
Responsibilities
- Lead important customer deployments from scoping through production, including single-tenant, government-cloud, and regulated data environments.
- Write production code, build agents, integrations, and tools, and tackle the most challenging technical problems.
- Serve as the senior technical advisor to customers, guiding them on AI agent integration into their practices.
- Hire, coach, and grow a team of strong engineers capable of both building and customer interaction.
- Develop playbooks, tools, and metrics to standardize and accelerate deployment processes.
- Identify patterns across deployments and collaborate with Product and Engineering to transform customer solutions into reusable platform features.
Requirements
- 5+ years of leadership experience in forward deployed, deployment, solutions, or customer engineering roles.
- Proven ability to write production software and a desire to remain hands-on.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers and a passion for building teams.
- Comfortable engaging with senior enterprise stakeholders, particularly in regulated or complex environments.
- Strong judgment regarding customer-specific versus platform development and the ability to manage scope effectively.
- Enthusiasm for applying AI agents to high-stakes professional work.
- Experience deploying LLM or agent-based systems in production.
