Eventual is building data curation for Physical AI, processing petabyte-scale video and sensor data to extract crucial signals for training frontier AI models. The company's mission is to empower Physical AI and robotics teams to instantly find, curate, and stream the data they need. As a Software Engineer on the Data Systems team, you will build key capabilities for a high-throughput data engine over petabytes of video, lidar, and telemetry data, working directly on the architecture for real-time indexing, distributed storage/compute, and efficient dataloading to GPUs. This role offers high ownership across the stack in an agile, fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Build multimodal storage solutions using modern columnar data lake formats (e.g., Apache Parquet, Apache Iceberg) optimized for high-dimensional video, lidar, and sensor logs.
- Develop powerful querying capabilities, including multi-stage query systems leveraging database fundamentals like partitioning, indexing, query planning, embeddings/vector search, and LLMs/VLMs for perception-based predicates.
- Improve memory stability, throughput, and zero-copy data flow for dataloading through streaming computation and line-rate CUDA tensor delivery to GPUs.
Requirements
- Proven track record building resilient, high-throughput distributed systems or database engines using Rust or C++.
- 3+ years of experience with engine internals such as vectorized execution, query planning/optimization, distributed task scheduling, or zero-copy networking.
- Practical exposure to scaling cloud infrastructure (AWS S3) and managing heavy-compute data pipelines.
- Experience with CUDA, GPU streaming, or video decoding frameworks is a plus.
- High agency and adaptability to thrive in an autonomous, fast-paced startup environment.
