About the job
As a Senior Research Engineer at Escape, you will join a team of talented security researchers focused on innovating and translating cutting-edge research into impactful production solutions. You will play a key role in developing agentic scanning systems that autonomously explore applications, designing and implementing a robust security detection engine for various vulnerabilities, and integrating AI, specifically LLMs, into scanning workflows to enhance coverage and accuracy. Your work will also involve building and optimizing distributed infrastructure for large-scale concurrent scans, ensuring performance and reliability, and contributing to core platform architecture decisions.
Responsibilities
- Build agentic scanning systems for autonomous application exploration and complex testing.
- Design and implement production-grade vulnerability detection logic.
- Integrate LLMs and structured reasoning into scanning workflows.
- Develop distributed systems to orchestrate thousands of concurrent scans.
- Ensure scan performance, determinism, and cost-efficiency.
- Contribute to architecture decisions for memory systems, execution environments, and data models.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in backend engineering, security research, or applied R&D.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to work across domains (systems, networking, web architectures).
- Proficient in at least one backend language (Python, Go, or similar).
- Experience designing and shipping production systems with measurable impact.
- Ability to translate complex ideas or research into reliable, scalable implementations.
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on pragmatism and impact.
- Comfortable collaborating across engineering and security teams.
- Experience in application security (web security, pentesting, bug bounty, etc.) is a plus.
- Exposure to AI/LLM-based systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with browser automation or large-scale distributed systems is a plus.
