About the job
Deepgram is seeking a Staff Developer Experience (DX) Engineer to own the systems that enable developers to go from API key to production with minimal friction. This deeply technical role involves building and evolving the foundation of multi-language SDKs, improving the developer journey, and proactively removing obstacles. You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Partnerships, and Developer Relations to define standards for developer experience across the platform, ultimately making Deepgram the easiest voice AI platform to build on. Success will be measured by faster time to first API call, better SDKs, fewer support issues, and a positive developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Own the direction and roadmap for developer experience, acting as the technical lead.
- Design and own the SDK code-generation architecture for predictable library releases and efficient new language additions.
- Define and enforce quality standards, cross-language parity, versioning, and observability for all SDKs.
- Improve the skills of engineers working on the SDK surface through code review, patterns, documentation, and pairing.
- Identify and address systemic causes of developer friction to implement structural fixes.
- Build and maintain tooling for the team, including code-generation pipelines, CI, supporting infrastructure, and starter repositories.
- Design documentation, automation, and architecture for resilience, longevity, and scalability.
- Provide technical input to Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Partnerships for decisions regarding the developer-facing surface.
Requirements
- Proven track record of owning developer-facing tooling across multiple languages, including libraries and SDK generators.
- Experience with SDK generation, templates, and release automation.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages and tech stacks (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust, .NET, Java).
- Experience working with open-source projects, engaging with external contributors, issues, and PRs.
- Familiarity with API specification-driven SDK generation.
- Experience building CLIs, documentation, and reference integrations.
- Ability to lead through influence and mentor other engineers.
- Strong understanding of developer experience principles and best practices.
- Comfort with rapid iteration and continuous learning in an AI-first environment.
