Decagon is seeking a founding Platform Engineer, Security to design, build, and operate the security infrastructure for its conversational AI platform. This is a hands-on builder role focused on creating robust systems, including paved paths for secure service creation, automated security tooling, and infrastructure-as-code. The engineer will have a significant impact on the direction of the security infrastructure program and will help invest in automation, observability, and self-service. This role is critical for securing sensitive customer data and enabling the company to serve security-conscious enterprises, directly impacting high-value business deals.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure, multi-tenant infrastructure for isolating customer data and enabling AI model serving.
- Build "golden paths" for security, including service templates, libraries, Terraform policies, and automation.
- Own infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and GitOps best practices, including reusable modules and policy-as-code.
- Expand and operate platforms for alerting, detection, secrets management, IAM, and automated remediation.
- Partner with engineering teams to translate enterprise and compliance requirements into automated technical controls.
- Participate in security on-call rotations and improve operability, runbooks, and incident learnings.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building and operating production infrastructure, with a focus on security.
- Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS, including compute, networking, IAM, and security services.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Strong coding ability in at least one systems language (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript).
- Experience building developer-facing tooling and automation.
- Experience applying AI-assisted tooling to improve engineer effectiveness.
- Experience with secure container deployment, service mesh, and Kubernetes security best practices.
- Experience with observability and incident-response tooling.
- Clear written communication skills and ability to translate ambiguous requirements into simple designs.
