About the job

Decagon is seeking an AI Acceleration Engineer to build and enhance the systems that power the company's operations. This is a hands-on technical role focused on making AI a practical tool for every team. You will extend existing platforms, automate manual processes in areas like billing and collections, and replace spreadsheet-based workflows with robust systems. A key part of this role involves "AI-pillaring" the company by providing teams with the necessary AI infrastructure, skills, and agents to automate their own work. You will own your projects end-to-end, from initial requirements to ongoing maintenance, working directly with the stakeholders whose processes you are improving. The ideal candidate is a strong generalist with a knack for engineering away manual processes and a deep understanding of system design.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects end-to-end, from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Build and maintain web applications and integrations for internal teams, including existing platforms and new tools built from scratch.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Accounting, Legal, People, and Recruiting to identify automation opportunities and determine the best approach (custom build, AI vendor, or hybrid).
  • Take on major workstreams such as billing, revenue recognition, usage data ingestion, and reconciliation.
  • Develop interfaces for AI systems, including MCP servers, skills, and agent-facing tooling, enabling power users to handle simpler automations.
  • Measure and communicate the impact of implemented solutions, such as time saved, cost reduced, and errors eliminated.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience building internal tools, systems, and automations for business teams.
  • Experience owning projects across the full lifecycle, from requirements gathering through deployment and maintenance.
  • Technical proficiency to build production-quality internal tools, with a focus on solving business problems.
  • Strong generalist capable of deep dives into diverse areas like billing and recruiting workflows.
  • Sound instincts for system design, data flow, potential failure points, and maintainability.
  • Ability to discern when an agentic/AI approach is suitable versus a deterministic pipeline.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-native coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) used to ship production solutions.
  • Coding experience preferred in Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript, including working with APIs and deploying solutions.
  • Ability to build trust quickly and independently drive complex projects under ambiguity.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for you and your family
  • Life Insurance and Disability Benefits
  • Retirement Plan (e.g., 401K, pension)
  • Parental Leave
  • Fertility and family building benefits through Carrot
  • Monthly stipend to support wellness, lifestyle, and work-life balance
