About the job
Code Metal is seeking a Staff Python Engineer to join their Modeling & Simulation team. This role will focus on building the Python services, pipelines, and tooling that drive a next-generation wargaming and decision-support platform. You will design backend services and APIs, integrate with simulators, manage data, and expose results to analysts and government stakeholders. The position involves developing backend infrastructure that interfaces with AI and machine learning pipelines, designing scenario-generation and analysis workflows, and building distributed, cloud-scale infrastructure to support simulations across various environments while ensuring reproducibility and model provenance. Strong command of cloud services and distributed architectures is essential.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services and APIs for simulation orchestration, output collection, and results exposure.
- Build scenario-generation, operational planning, and Monte-Carlo based sensitivity-analysis workflows.
- Develop distributed, cloud-scale infrastructure for running simulations across different environments while maintaining reproducibility and provenance.
- Create data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines to transform raw simulation output into actionable insights.
- Build scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and containerized services to connect Python tooling with the simulation runtime and analysis tools.
- Gather and distill requirements from government stakeholders, domain experts, and analysts into clear software designs.
- Employ strong SDLC practices including code review, testing, continuous integration, release management, and build systems.
Requirements
- Professional experience with collaborative, enterprise-level software development in Python.
- Experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into software designs.
- Experience building and delivering robust software using strong SDLC practices.
- Familiarity with machine learning tools and frameworks.
- Expertise in building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized application development.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
