About the job

Code Metal is seeking a Senior Python Engineer to join their Modeling & Simulation team. This role will focus on building the next-generation wargaming and decision-support platform that assists the Department of the Air Force in making critical force-design decisions. You will be instrumental in developing the Python services, pipelines, and tooling that power the core wargaming simulation. This includes designing backend services and APIs, integrating with simulators, managing data, and exposing results to various stakeholders. The position offers scope for ownership, architectural authority, and mentorship, scaling with the engineer's level.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement backend services and APIs for simulation orchestration, output collection, and results dissemination.
  • Build workflows for scenario generation, operational planning, and Monte Carlo-based sensitivity analysis.
  • Develop distributed, cloud-scale infrastructure for running simulations across different environments while ensuring reproducibility and provenance.
  • Create data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines to transform raw simulation output into actionable insights.
  • Build scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and containerized services to connect Python tooling with the simulation runtime and analysis tools.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate them into clear software designs.
  • Employ strong SDLC practices including code review, testing, continuous integration, release management, and build systems.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in collaborative, enterprise-level Python software development, delivering products to a large customer base.
  • Experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into software designs.
  • Proven experience building and delivering robust software using strong SDLC practices.
  • Familiarity with machine learning tools and frameworks.
  • Expertise in building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized application development.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
