About the job
As the Engineering Manager for the Developer Observability Platform, you will lead a fast-paced, customer-focused team dedicated to making telemetry discoverable and actionable for users. This international and distributed team operates with agility and a strong connection to customer feedback, bringing extensive observability experience from leading companies and startups. This role is highly cross-functional, requiring an understanding of monitoring complex, high-volume primitives like Workers, Agents, and Durable Objects. It's a high-visibility position with direct interaction with key customers.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize excellent customer outcomes through building, planning, decision-making, design, and communication.
- Define the technical and product vision in collaboration with Product Management and Engineers.
- Develop an observability platform tailored for the current AI-driven ecosystem, addressing new platform capabilities and observability needs.
- Manage operational aspects including SLOs, incident response, customer escalations, and technical debt, recognizing reliability as a core feature.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers, maintaining and raising the team's high standards.
- Foster a team culture that emphasizes rapid iteration, high agency, and strong ownership.
- Collaborate with various platform and product teams to instrument and surface meaningful, actionable data.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience, with at least 4 years managing software engineering teams.
- Proven experience leading teams that have successfully shipped and operated complex, large-scale systems and data-driven applications, preferably in observability, developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, edge/proxy systems, or high-scale APIs.
- Significant technical depth to guide architectural discussions, make sound technical decisions, review designs, and support team progress.
- Strong understanding of developer tools and observability products, recognizing what makes them effective or frustrating.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and develop senior engineers, building high-performing, inclusive teams.
- A hands-on leadership approach, staying close to the code, understanding metrics and customer needs, and guiding future development.
