About the job
Clay is seeking a Partner Technical Engineer to join its Data & Integration Partnerships team. This role is crucial for managing the technical quality of data providers and ensuring new partners are technically ready before integration into Clay's data marketplace. You will define testing methodologies, build scoring models to rank providers, and act as a technical gatekeeper for new partners, assessing their integration readiness before commercial discussions. You will collaborate with internal teams like Product and Engineering, as well as external partner technical teams, to drive the success of Clay's data ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead for the partnerships team, designing joint solutions with prospective partners.
- Prototype integration concepts to quickly assess feasibility during partner conversations.
- Design and implement the 'build' partner motion on Clay's public API and MCP.
- Translate partner and customer feedback into roadmap priorities for Product and Engineering.
- Own the evaluation system for data providers, determining integration, ranking, and scoring.
- Define the end-to-end testing methodology, including standard test kits and re-evaluation cadences.
- Manage public data tests for phone, work email, and personal email, ensuring accuracy.
- Prioritize partners based on coverage gaps in geography and data type.
- Incorporate test results into decisions regarding margin, tiering, and badging.
- Build and automate the technical readiness assessment for prospective partners.
- Score partners at intake and collaborate with Partner Development to unblock or disqualify them.
- Scope integration details, including endpoints, auth, fields, and cost-per-call, before contracts are signed.
- Certify partners as launch-ready and conduct pre-launch technical checks.
- Monitor integration health, API performance, and data quality post-launch.
- Resolve complex issues in collaboration with partner technical teams.
- Write technical documentation and implementation guides for partner developers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a technical role (software engineering, solutions engineering, technical partnerships, or similar) working with partnerships, integrations, marketplace, and/or ecosystems.
- Deep familiarity with REST APIs, OAuth, webhooks, and modern integration patterns.
- Experience building data quality frameworks, testing pipelines, or evaluation methodologies.
- Proven ability to navigate third-party APIs and dense partner technical documentation.
- Comfort with data analysis, including writing SQL, building dashboards, and extracting insights from messy datasets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate complex technical concepts.
Benefits
- Work with world-class coaches specializing in creativity, management, and more.
