Clay is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Data Products & Platform team. This role is crucial in building data products that customers use directly and the underlying systems that accelerate the development of new products. The core of our work involves creating and maintaining a live map of the working world, encompassing companies, people, jobs, and their connections. This data is dynamic and often conflicting, requiring sophisticated methods to transform fragmented information into reliable, actionable insights for our customers. You will be instrumental in expanding this map to capture more business types, relationships, and global coverage, turning these gaps into new data products that launch to thousands of customers weekly.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate data sources, resolve conflicts, and model entities and relationships for product trust.
- Explore and build new data products from customer problems to product experiences.
- Define and build the shared data foundation, including data ingestion, modeling, versioning, release evaluation, and delivery.
- Own the data serving layer, supporting interactive search, enrichment, large result sets, and change alerts with predictable performance.
- Integrate models into data pipelines, determining when models outperform deterministic pipelines and ensuring economic scalability.
- Establish data quality as a product decision, measuring coverage, correctness, freshness, and source traceability, especially for model-driven outputs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience building customer-reliant products.
- Experience acting as a product manager and engineer, driving products end-to-end.
- Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional technical work from problem framing to delivery.
- Empathetic communicator with the ability to express nuanced ideas clearly to different audiences.
- Collaborative approach to shipping high-quality features, talking to customers, and working with teammates.
- Commitment to craft, writing clear and maintainable code, and creating reusable patterns.
- Belief in the value of diverse perspectives for team and product improvement.
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn technologies such as React, TypeScript, Python, Node.js, Aurora PostgreSQL, Redis, ECS Fargate, Lambda, OpenSearch, SQL, Iceberg on S3 with Glue and Athena, SQLMesh, ClickHouse, Airflow, Terraform, Datadog, and CloudWatch.
- Experience building and operating production systems where data quality and reliability are critical.
- Comfort and proficiency in SQL.
