About the job
Clay is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join its centralized Learning Team. This team is responsible for building the intelligence engine that powers learning loops across the entire product. You will be instrumental in shipping intelligence features that learn from customer data and behavior, including ranking and recommendation systems, new AI products, and the underlying ML platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the architecture and set standards for a new, critical team at a rapidly growing company.
Responsibilities
- Build learning loops into the product by designing and shipping systems that improve using user behavior and business data.
- Develop net-new recommendation-first experiences from prototype to production.
- Contribute to building the ML and data platform, including data lake foundations and serving infrastructure.
- Evaluate new tools to accelerate the product vision and collaborate with data science and platform teams.
- Create evaluation systems and online monitoring to ensure learning features are trustworthy and positively impact user experience.
- Partner with product teams to enhance their surfaces with intelligence.
Requirements
- 5+ years in machine learning engineering or ML-heavy software engineering with production-shipped models and features.
- Strong engineering fundamentals with experience writing production-quality code and owning systems.
- Experience with LLMs in production (prompting, evals, guardrails, fine-tuning) and/or classical ML (ranking, recommendations, propensity models).
- Experience building data-intensive systems, including pipelines, feature infrastructure, retrieval, and serving.
- Pragmatic product sense, optimizing for end-user experience and business impact.
- Comfort with ambiguity and building platforms from the ground up.
- Passion for the AI space, staying current with innovations and tools.
