About the job

Clay is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead its Data Science and Analytics (DSA) team. This team acts as a center of excellence for experimentation, metric design, insights, and data-driven decision-making across all business functions. The manager will play a crucial role in shaping product and business strategy by partnering with executives, using data to set the internal narrative, and driving strategic influence within one of the fastest-growing AI businesses. The team leverages AI for data, notably with an in-house AI agent named "Monty" that has addressed self-serve analytics challenges. The ideal candidate will possess strong data intuition, product and business acumen, and exceptional data storytelling skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Data Science and Analytics team, including managing, developing, recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding talent.
  • Establish shared standards for data work and coach the team to achieve them, fostering team cohesion and technical growth.
  • Set a high technical bar for experimentation, analysis, insights, metric design, and data modeling, ensuring the team stays at the forefront of AI innovations in data science and analytics.
  • Ensure the team focuses on high-impact work that drives decisions and meaningfully influences business trajectory.
  • Strategically partner with business units, managing staffing to support key stakeholders while maintaining high standards and pushing back when necessary.
  • Ensure partners make data-informed decisions and have the necessary tooling, insights, and support.
  • Shape product and business strategy by using data to inform priorities, identify new investment opportunities, and proactively suggest new directions.
  • Define key measurement frameworks, partner with stakeholders to define business and product goals, and lead the development and championing of key metrics.
  • Develop a deep understanding of users by partnering with UXR and customer feedback teams to gather insights on user needs.
  • Ensure the most important metrics are properly instrumented and monitored to foster a data-obsessed organization.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience managing data scientists and/or analytics engineers.
  • 6+ years of overall experience in data science or analytics, with a proven track record of influencing product and business decisions.
  • Strong technical depth in experimentation, analytics, statistics, data modeling, and metric design.
  • Expertise in product or growth data science, with a deep understanding of user funnels in B2B or B2C products.
  • Skilled at stakeholder management, including partnering with senior leaders and pushing back when needed.
  • Proven experience influencing product roadmaps via data and insights, and connecting data work to business outcomes.
  • Excellent data storytelling skills.
  • Empathetic communicator who expresses nuanced ideas clearly and prioritizes curiosity and partnership.
  • Experience growing teams, including hiring, coaching, and developing senior individual contributors.
  • Excitement about AI-native ways of working.

Benefits

  • Access to world-class coaches specializing in creativity, management, and more.
