Clarion is rebuilding healthcare communication using AI agents to handle administrative tasks like scheduling, billing, and follow-ups, allowing healthcare teams to focus on patient care. We are building the communication infrastructure that modern healthcare needs, with AI agents that complete workflows end-to-end. Founded by a Stanford/Harvard-trained physician and an ex-Amazon Alexa engineer, Clarion has raised $10M from top investors and is an in-person team in New York. This role offers the opportunity to own foundational backend systems at an early-stage company with real traction and a mission-critical problem to solve, working closely with founders who understand both healthcare and large-scale AI systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own core backend systems, data models, and business logic for AI agents and healthcare workflows.
- Build infrastructure for multi-step, asynchronous workflows, including agentic AI workflows with conditional logic and error handling.
- Own high-stakes integrations with EHRs and legacy healthcare platforms.
- Create internal abstractions and tooling for rapid and reliable deployment of AI assistants.
- Implement and maintain backend authentication, authorization, and HIPAA-compliant architecture.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and scaling backend systems in high-reliability production environments.
- Strong backend expertise across APIs, relational databases, async workflows, and distributed systems.
- High ownership and agency, thriving in ambiguity and taking responsibility for system outcomes.
- Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate cross-functionally, and surface risks early.
- Familiarity with security, auth, or regulated environments (HIPAA is a plus).
