Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems to be safe and beneficial for society. The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team embeds with strategic customers to build production AI systems on Claude, tackling novel challenges and developing repeatable patterns. This role is for a Strategy & Operations Lead dedicated to the FDE team, reporting to the GTM Strategy & Operations team. You will partner with FDE leadership to own the team's strategic plan, including headcount, capacity, engagement mix, pricing, measurement, and scaling through partners. This is a hands-on role requiring you to build models and dashboards, and leverage Claude for automation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop FDE's annual and quarterly plans covering headcount, hiring, capacity, utilization, and engagement mix.
  • Create demand, capacity, and staffing models with scenarios for leadership decision-making.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly business reviews, defining KPIs and preparing materials for leadership.
  • Establish reporting mechanisms for engagement, staffing, and outcome data, measuring production launches, consumption, and partner reuse.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Deal Desk, and Legal to shape the commercial model for FDE engagements, including pricing, packaging, and tracking economics.
  • Develop plans and economics for scaling work through delivery partners.
  • Design the organizational structure, including new roles and manager spans, in collaboration with FDE leadership and People.
  • Lead cross-functional projects addressing issues across Sales, Applied AI, Customer Success, Product, and Research.
  • Utilize Claude Code and agents to build and automate models, dashboards, and workflows.

Requirements

  • Experience in strategy and operations, business operations, strategic finance, or consulting, with direct work involving professional services, implementation, solutions engineering, or forward-deployed teams.
  • Understanding of services business economics, including utilization, staffing mix, rates, backlog, margin, and their connection to customer outcomes.
  • Ability to build capacity or staffing models from scratch, articulate all assumptions, and extract data using SQL.
  • Experience running planning cycles and business reviews for senior leaders, including material preparation.
  • Proven ability to take an ambiguous question to a recommendation, decision, and implemented process.
  • Skill in earning trust and influencing senior technical and commercial leaders without direct authority.
  • Comfort working with imperfect data and simple processes, with a drive to improve them.
  • Current use of AI tools in your work and a desire to advance their application.
  • Enthusiasm for Anthropic's mission to build safe and beneficial AI.
