We are seeking a Software Engineer to develop the research infrastructure and tooling that will enable OpenAI models to design silicon. This role involves transforming chip-design workflows into robust environments for reinforcement learning and evaluation, and simplifying the process for researchers to conduct experiments and iterate on new ideas. You will bridge software engineering, tool integration, and open research challenges, leveraging strong coding fundamentals, clear technical judgment, and independent execution. While prior chip-design experience is beneficial, domain knowledge can be acquired alongside our hardware specialists.

The AI Acceleration team is dedicated to making Perplexity the premier platform for building and deploying AI agents. We develop the essential infrastructure that engineers and agents rely on, while also pioneering novel methods for agents to write, test, review, and ship code. Our work empowers teams to transition from concept to production more rapidly, without sacrificing quality or reliability. We oversee the entire development lifecycle at Perplexity, from the initial coding environment to the production deployment systems. This encompasses local and cloud coding environments, build and test infrastructure, code review processes, and release management. Furthermore, we are constructing autonomous software development systems where agents handle increasingly complex engineering tasks, supported by explicit evaluation, verification, and safety protocols. We are responsible for both the underlying infrastructure and the workflows that ensure these systems are effective.
