About the job
SpaceXAI is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to manage the buildout, startup, and handover of electrical systems for their high-performance data centers. This is a hands-on role focused on commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting critical systems that power next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure. You will collaborate with construction teams, engineering departments, operations, contractors, and vendors to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality electrical systems. This is a full-time, onsite position requiring travel to SpaceXAI data center construction sites across the United States.
Responsibilities
- Execute electrical commissioning for MV/LV switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, ATS/STS, transformers, relays, busway, and associated controls in hyperscale data center environments.
- Perform functional performance testing, pre-functional testing, site acceptance testing, load-bank testing, protection-relay testing, integrated system testing, and system turnover to operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, controls, and process issues during commissioning and startup phases.
- Develop and review detailed commissioning test procedures, scripts, checklists, and documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, engineers, and stakeholders for system energization, startup, and integrated system validation.
- Enforce safety protocols including LOTO, NFPA, and OSHA during all activities.
- Maintain comprehensive as-built documentation, test records, issue logs, and final commissioning reports.
- Support and deliver training programs for operations and maintenance teams.
- Participate in constructability reviews, design feedback, and lessons-learned meetings.
- Support commissioning schedules and punch-list resolution to meet project timelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in commissioning for electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of commissioning test equipment or demonstrated aptitude to learn.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, NESC).
- Ability to read, interpret, and redline electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience coordinating with multi-discipline teams, contractors, and vendors in construction environments.
- Ability to work safely in industrial construction environments and follow safety protocols.
- Commissioning experience, including functional performance testing, pre-functional testing, site acceptance testing, load-bank testing, protection-relay testing, integrated system testing, and system turnover.
- Data center systems and prior work on mission-critical projects.
- Hands-on experience with EPMS, BMS/BAS, and power-system controls troubleshooting and integration (Modbus, BACnet, etc.).
- Current OSHA 30 certification or equivalent.
- Proficiency with commissioning management platforms (CxPro, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar).
- Experience implementing integrated systems testing and owner’s project requirements verification.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to travel to construction sites and remain onsite for extended periods.
- Physical capability to work in industrial environments, climb ladders/stairs, lift moderate loads, and wear full PPE.
