About the job
SpaceXAI is seeking a skilled AI Humanities Specialist to enhance its AI models, specifically Grok, by providing high-quality data annotations and inputs tailored to humanities contexts. This role involves leveraging expertise in fields like linguistics, history, classical studies, literature, poetry, philosophy, ethics, visual arts, and performing arts to train Grok. The specialist will evaluate model outputs and create training data to ensure Grok reasons accurately, weighs evidence carefully, and communicates uncertainty honestly, with a focus on scholarly judgment.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate model outputs for factual accuracy, logical coherence, fallacious reasoning, and hidden assumptions within humanities contexts.
- Identify and flag confident-sounding errors, anachronisms, misused sources, ideological slant, and claims that lack sufficient evidence.
- Create exemplary responses and datasets demonstrating intellectual honesty, careful source evaluation, and clear distinctions between evidence, interpretation, and speculation.
- Analyze and represent opposing viewpoints accurately before critique, and differentiate between settled knowledge, contested areas, and unknowns.
- Ground annotations and reference answers in primary sources whenever possible, and critically assess secondary scholarship against this record.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design evaluation tasks, rubrics, and examples to improve Grok's behavior and personality in humanities domains.
- Help define and refine standards for model behavior in complex humanistic questions, emphasizing precision, sourcing, appropriate confidence, and resistance to biased interpretations.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge in at least one of: linguistics, history, classical studies, literature, poetry, philosophy, ethics, visual arts, or performing arts.
- Ability to assess arguments for validity, soundness, hidden premises, and category errors, beyond surface correctness.
- Habitual reliance on primary sources and skill in weighing them against secondary literature.
- Ability to accurately represent opposing views and distinguish settled knowledge from interpretation or speculation.
- Excellent analytical writing skills in English, characterized by clarity, precision, and calibration to evidence strength.
- Comfort working with evolving instructions to produce high-quality annotations, critiques, and reference answers.
- For US-based candidates, must not be located in Wyoming or Illinois.
- Must use a Chromebook, Mac with MacOS 11.0+, or Windows 10+ for work.
Benefits
- Health insurance (for eligible U.S. based positions)
