WRITER is seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel to serve as a trusted legal partner for their sales and procurement teams. This role involves drafting and negotiating SaaS agreements to support company growth and maintain strong partnerships. The ideal candidate will be energized by fast-paced negotiations with large enterprise companies, curious about cutting-edge technology, and eager to join a collaborative, creative, and low-ego team. This position offers an opportunity to redefine the in-house legal function within a rapidly growing enterprise generative AI company.
Responsibilities
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts, including SaaS licensing, strategic partnerships, and data processing agreements.
- Develop and manage contract templates and negotiation playbooks to improve sales contracting efficiency.
- Create processes to support internal stakeholders and improve business operations.
- Train go-to-market teams with practical legal advice and guidance.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the U.S.
- 7+ years of experience negotiating commercial contracts, preferably in SaaS or for tech industry clients.
- Experience contracting with large enterprise companies and strategic partners, including in regulated industries.
- Exposure to privacy, IP, and basic AI legal issues.
- Experience using contract management tools (e.g., Asana, Salesforce, Linksquares).
- Familiarity with legal operations and project management.
- Strong work ethic, ability to think on your feet, and a sense of humor.
- Ability to explain complex legal concepts simply.
- Proficiency in prioritizing and multitasking under tight deadlines.
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to adding value.
