As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Agent SDK team, you will build and maintain the foundational Kotlin layer that AI agents operate on, ensuring scalability, cost-efficiency, and ease of use for feature teams.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the Agent SDK as an internal product, shaping its runtime and client-facing contracts.
- Develop the identity layer for agents, enabling customer-facing agents to operate with real user identities.
- Implement telemetry and error reporting into the SDK, integrating inference and anonymization.
- Create a comprehensive test kit for the SDK, including architecture tests and paths for agent evaluation.
- Manage ecosystem changes, such as version bumps and format compatibility, and set shared limits on tool output and token usage.
Requirements
- Several years of production backend experience on the JVM (Kotlin, Java, Scala, or similar).
- Experience designing APIs for other engineers to build against, particularly SDKs or internal platforms.
- Proven ability to build and maintain stable integrations with external systems.
- Proficiency in building with testing and observability practices.
- Interest in AI agent systems, orchestration, and evaluation.
