This role is critical for ensuring Vapi's CI and deployment systems remain fast, safe, observable, and predictable at scale, supporting hundreds of pull requests daily for large enterprises. The engineer will own systems for safe releases, focusing on CI/CD, testing, and deployment safety to remove bottlenecks and increase confidence without slowing product teams. The position involves mapping release architecture, owning the release-tooling roadmap, and establishing a repeatable model for fast, safe releases with measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the biggest failure modes in the release process.
  • Ship initial improvements to the release process.
  • Own the release-tooling roadmap and operating health.
  • Remove costly CI/deploy bottlenecks.
  • Improve observability and diagnosis of the release pipeline.
  • Automate slow or failure-prone workflows.
  • Establish a repeatable model for safe, fast releases.
  • Deliver self-service workflows and guardrails for releases.
  • Set the longer-term release-infrastructure roadmap.

Requirements

  • Evidence of owning critical CI/CD or release infrastructure at meaningful scale and driving measurable cross-team improvements.
  • Strong distributed-systems fundamentals.
  • Ability to diagnose failures across build, test, deployment, and infrastructure layers.
  • Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes-based delivery systems.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Argo CD, Terraform, and Atlantis or comparable systems.
  • A habit of automating repetitive work.
  • Experience investing in testing and passive defenses.
  • Experience using data to prove system improvements.
  • Deep curiosity and ability to gather context quickly.
  • Ability to form a clear point of view.
  • Ability to keep pace as the architecture and product evolve.
  • Low-ego teammate who communicates clearly and owns outcomes.
  • Familiarity with AI coding tools.
  • Experience as an SRE is a plus.
  • Experience with development frameworks like multi-agent workflows is a plus.
  • Experience with programming languages like TypeScript and Go is a plus.

Benefits

  • $235,000–$280,000 base salary
  • Meaningful equity ownership
  • Comprehensive health coverage: medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Quarterly off-sites
