About the job
Vapi is seeking a Member of Technical Staff, Agentic Developer Experience to build and own the agentic development lifecycle. This role is crucial for transforming fragmented agent development pieces into a reliable system that connects sandboxes, CI, verification, and background agents. The goal is to create a cohesive system that accelerates engineering velocity, enabling agents to place real calls, validate their work, and ship with confidence, ultimately aiming to ship 10x faster in the real-time voice AI frontier.
Responsibilities
- Map and instrument Vapi's path from task to production, identifying constraints on agent effectiveness.
- Ship improvements to the sandbox environment, developer tooling, or validation infrastructure.
- Launch production workflows in Vapi's internal software factory, providing background agents with necessary context, tools, and quality gates.
- Own and launch Vapi's platform for autonomous, background engineering.
- Build a harness for agents to place real calls, measure latency and conversation quality, inspect telemetry, and iterate to verified results.
- Create a foundation to accelerate every engineer and achieve faster shipping.
Requirements
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure that significantly changed how engineers build, test, and ship software.
- Strong software fundamentals in distributed systems, platform architecture, API design, CI/CD, and large-codebase workflows.
- Practical experience building agent harnesses and using coding agents for engineering work.
- Experience designing secure agent interfaces, MCP integrations, and sandboxed runtimes.
- Experience building or operating LLM evaluation systems and reasoning about accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost.
- Fluency in TypeScript, Python, or Go.
- Comfort working across containers, databases, queues, orchestration systems, and cloud infrastructure.
- Knowledge of frontier models and techniques like prompt caching, context compression, retrieval, and multi-agent coordination.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and turn fragmented experiments into simple, usable systems.
