Unsiloed AI is seeking a Founding ML Researcher to join a small, talent-dense team in San Francisco. This role is pivotal in defining the company's engineering archetype and setting the standard for future hires. The ideal candidate will operate proactively, take full ownership, and independently drive systems from conception to production. This position is research-heavy but product-oriented, requiring comfort in moving between theory, experimentation, and real-world deployment.
Responsibilities
- Shape the company's ML research direction.
- Translate research into production-ready document AI models.
- Own the end-to-end ML lifecycle: research, experimentation, training, evaluation, and production deployment.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to transition research into deployed, scalable systems.
- Drive best practices for data, experimentation, evaluation, and model iteration.
Requirements
- Experience training and deploying state-of-the-art models for parsing and understanding unstructured data.
- Experience experimenting with novel techniques for layout models and VLM-based document understanding.
- Experience building data pipelines, evaluating model performance, and integrating models into production systems.
- Experience working directly with founders to shape product direction and engineering strategy.
- PhD or equivalent research experience in VLM, Computer Vision, or related areas (bonus).
- Publications in top-tier AI conferences (bonus).
- Familiarity with model serving, inference optimization, or deployment at scale (bonus).
