TRM Labs is seeking a Staff Data Platform Engineer to join their Data Platform Serving team. This role focuses on maintaining and scaling the StarRocks-backed serving layer for TRM's government cloud investigations environment, ensuring it remains fast, reliable, and compliant. You will work alongside the current domain owner, gaining hands-on experience with distributed systems in a high-availability, regulated setting. The position offers a unique opportunity to impact critical infrastructure, improve performance through AI-assisted tools, and enhance data pipeline reliability in a high-compliance environment.
Responsibilities
- Own performance tuning on the StarRocks serving layer using AI-assisted query profiling.
- Build and harden data pipelines for government cloud investigations, leveraging AI code review workflows.
- Reduce single-point-of-failure risk by becoming proficient in operating and troubleshooting the serving layer.
- Use AI-assisted debugging and log analysis to triage and resolve production issues.
- Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering and Product teams to maintain government cloud environment parity.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Hands-on experience operating distributed OLAP or serving-layer systems (e.g., StarRocks, Trino, ClickHouse), including query tuning and performance optimization.
- Experience owning data pipeline reliability and incident response.
- Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) for debugging, code review, and documentation.
- Independent ownership mindset with the ability to quickly ramp up on unfamiliar infrastructure using AI-assisted research and code exploration.
- Willingness to take on-call responsibility with minimal oversight.
