About the job

TRM Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their AI team, focusing on enhancing intelligence collection through AI-powered solutions. This role involves working directly with intelligence analysts to understand their workflows and build AI products, tooling, and infrastructure that improve efficiency and scale. The ideal candidate will have strong product sense, the ability to identify high-impact solutions, and a desire to stay deeply technical while shaping product direction. You will be responsible for designing, building, and owning AI-powered internal applications end-to-end, from backend services and APIs to the underlying infrastructure and user interfaces. This is a hands-on position for an engineer who wants to make a significant impact on the mission of building a safer world.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with intel analysts to understand goals, constraints, and workflows, translating them into technical solutions.
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities to improve intelligence collection with a product-oriented approach.
  • Productize work to ensure adoption and durability.
  • Design, build, and own AI-powered internal applications end-to-end.
  • Develop custom agentic solutions leveraging state-of-the-art models to scale intelligence workflows.
  • Own projects end-to-end, including technical design, architecture, scoping, delivery, and iteration.
  • Build reliable and scalable systems for daily analyst use.
  • Continuously evaluate impact and iterate based on real outcomes.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of full-stack software engineering experience building scalable web applications, services, and APIs.
  • Strong product sense, with the ability to identify and ship high-impact, scalable solutions.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong backend and systems engineering skills.
  • Experience building backend systems, working with datastores (e.g., Postgres/pgvector, Pinecone, Redis), and designing APIs.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and hands-on experience with AI tools and applications, including modern AI models, agentic IDEs, or building AI-enabled workflows.
  • High degree of ownership and initiative, with the ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust with semi-technical stakeholders and explain technical trade-offs.
