About the job
Tavus is a research lab pioneering human computing and building AI Humans, a new interface that bridges the gap between people and machines. Our real-time human simulation models enable machines to see, hear, respond, and appear realistic, facilitating meaningful, face-to-face conversations. AI Humans combine human emotional intelligence with machine reach and reliability, offering capable, trusted agents available 24/7 in any language. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be a technical leader on our Conversational Video Interface (CVI) product, a multimodal real-time conversational system. This is a hands-on role where your code will operate in the middle of live conversations between people and AI Humans.
Responsibilities
- Ship features end-to-end, from loosely defined product priorities to specifications, architecture, and deployed features.
- Partner with the research team to integrate state-of-the-art real-time models into the CVI.
- Proactively identify and address issues in processes or performance without requiring explicit tickets or permission.
- Develop and maintain frameworks for AI Human interaction, such as guided browser control and interactive video stream elements (Magic Canvas).
- Implement and optimize context layers for AI Humans, enabling real-time recall of past conversations and document retrieval.
- Optimize conversational turns to reduce latency.
Requirements
- Fluent in Python with deep expertise in concurrent programming, including low-level concepts like asyncio, multiprocessing, event loops, the GIL, and shared memory.
- Experience building real-time systems (video, audio, or model inference) with an understanding of millisecond latency budgets.
- A senior track record of setting direction, owning decisions, and successfully delivering projects.
- Ability to clearly explain complex concepts and mentor team members.
- Proactive and autonomous approach to problem-solving and project delivery.
- Adaptability to evolving priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to high product quality and user experience.
