About the job

Taktile is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to focus on Developer Productivity and Developer Experience. This role is crucial for removing bottlenecks in the software development lifecycle, particularly in areas like builds, tests, reviews, merges, and deployments, which have become the primary challenge after AI coding agents have accelerated code writing. You will be a key member of the Platform Team, serving Taktile's backend and frontend engineers, as well as the AI agents they work with. Your primary product will be the entire process from the initial commit to production deployment, aiming to improve metrics like CI speed and reliability, and the ease of building on the serverless stack.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own deployment services for shipping Taktile, managing tens of thousands of stack deployments weekly across various environments and accounts, including progressive rollouts, canary stages, deployment gates, and fast rollbacks.
  • Maintain and extend Claudius, the in-house AI engineering agent, to investigate CI failures, triage issues, and open PRs.
  • Manage and enhance metadev, a sandboxed Claude Code and OpenCode setup that provides Taktile's engineering knowledge to all engineers.
  • Own and optimize the build-test-merge loop, reducing CI runtime and flakiness across monorepos by identifying and fixing slow or unreliable steps.
  • Evolve the CI/CD architecture, building on per-module GitHub Actions workflows and a self-hosted runner fleet, improving caching, parallelism, and cost per build.
  • Shorten the inner development loop by making the AWS Lambda stack development fast, from local service execution against preview environments to quicker container-based deploys.
  • Develop paved roads including templates, CLIs, and self-service tooling to enable teams to take new modules from commit to a running dev workspace in under a day.
  • Design tooling for both humans and AI agents, ensuring it is fast, deterministic, and scriptable for quick, trustworthy feedback.
  • Own and track DevProd metrics such as PR lead time, CI runtime, CI flakiness, and PRs per engineer-day to guide future improvements and demonstrate impact.
  • Take ownership of Claudius, the in-house AI engineering agent, and define its future direction.
  • Act as a customer advocate for engineers, engaging with teams, triaging CI incidents, writing documentation, and driving migrations and deprecations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping and operating production systems end-to-end and leading cross-team technical projects.
  • Strong, production-grade skills in at least one backend language, with Python being the primary language, but open to others.
  • Hands-on experience managing CI/CD at scale (e.g., GitHub Actions), including build/test performance, caching, parallelization, and debugging.
  • Solid AWS experience, particularly with serverless (Lambda, CloudFormation/SAM) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
  • Familiarity with modern AI coding and agent-orchestration tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenCode, subagents, MCP) and their reliable implementation for an engineering organization.
  • A product mindset for internal tooling, focusing on user engagement, outcome measurement, and adoption.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to drive cross-team changes effectively.
