Synthesia is seeking a Staff Research Engineer to join their R&D Department, focusing on cutting-edge challenges in Generative AI, specifically avatar-centric interactive video diffusion models. This role offers the chance to work on applied research that directly impacts solutions used by thousands of businesses worldwide. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of AI video agents capable of human-like thinking, acting, and reacting. The team operates in a fast-paced environment, iterating frequently and building impactful models that ship to production.
Responsibilities
- Adapt diffusion models to incorporate diverse conditioning signals like audio, motion, and interaction cues.
- Develop methods for streaming infinitely long video sequences in real-time.
- Work on the perceptual layer of interactive agents, processing user audio and generating contextual reactions.
- Improve lip-sync accuracy, motion realism, and visual quality in video diffusion models.
- Build robust evaluation frameworks and test suites for continuous quality tracking.
- Collaborate with the data team to define data needs and ensure high-quality datasets.
- Stay updated on research in world models, interactive human/agent modeling, and diffusion models.
Requirements
- Comfortable owning and executing assigned responsibilities.
- Strong ML background (diffusion, GANs, VAEs) and computer vision expertise with relevant industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with diffusion models, ideally avatar-centric or video-focused, and knowledge of recent advances.
- Proficiency in PyTorch and familiarity with modern ML frameworks and tooling.
- Strong Python engineering skills, confidence with Git and version control.
- Commitment to clean, maintainable research code.
- Outcome-driven, detail-oriented, and motivated to translate research into product impact.
- Clear communication of hypotheses, experiments, and results.
