Synthesia is seeking a Principal/Staff Software Engineer to work on core enterprise platform systems, focusing on services that ensure the platform is secure, reliable, and scalable for their largest customers. This role will contribute to a new suite of APIs designed to unlock their market-leading Avatar technology for external creative tools. As an AI-native company, Synthesia leverages advanced AI assistant tools to accelerate development and automate tasks. The engineer will own projects spanning months and multiple teams, requiring the ability to break down complex problems into deliverable steps. Engineers are empowered to influence product discussions and build with user and business needs in mind, with a strong emphasis on impact. Collaboration with product, security, legal, and infrastructure partners is essential, translating business and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions. Work will be evaluated through system health and reliability metrics, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Work on core enterprise platform systems, focusing on security, reliability, and scalability.
- Contribute to new APIs to enable external use of Avatar technology.
- Own projects spanning months and multiple teams, breaking down complex problems.
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate work through system health and reliability metrics.
- Consider the long-term direction of the platform for future scale and evolving needs.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience as a software engineer, operating at a senior or staff level.
- Experience building and operating systems at scale, ideally in platform or enterprise-focused teams.
- Strong expertise in development and system design.
- Experience across the stack is a plus (Python, React, AWS).
- Relevant engineering experience for enterprise-grade systems (security, compliance, data handling, access control, multi-tenant systems, platform services).
- Experience owning systems in production, including observability, incident response, and reliability improvements.
- Ability to work across teams and functions, aligning stakeholders and driving technical initiatives.
- Strong alignment with building reliable, scalable systems.
- Previous experience leading projects or mentoring engineers is a plus.
