Synthesia is seeking a Senior or Staff Platform Engineer to join their Developer Platform team. This team is responsible for building internal tools and platforms that enhance the velocity, quality, and developer experience of Synthesia's engineering teams. You will own developer productivity, insights, SDLC metrics, CI/CD systems, and AI-assisted QA and development. This role offers significant ownership from day one, allowing you to drive improvements in Synthesia's engineering processes in an AI-driven development landscape. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical strategy and roadmap, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the operational health and scalability of the systems you build.
Responsibilities
- Own architectural decisions for feature development, release, and long-term support.
- Mentor engineers and embed technical practices through code reviews and design partnerships.
- Lead projects spanning quarters, breaking down complex problems into iterative milestones.
- Operate with high autonomy, defining success criteria, managing trade-offs, and escalating when necessary.
- Partner with leadership to shape the roadmap and technical strategy, influencing build decisions.
- Own the operational health of built systems and use data to drive iteration and maintenance.
- Anticipate and propose scalable solutions for 12+ month technical challenges.
- Build engineering capabilities to stay ahead of the curve in AI-driven development.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience as a software engineer, with 2-3 years at a senior/staff level.
- Proven hands-on experience building and operating developer platforms, CI/CD systems, observability/metrics infrastructure, code quality automation, testing infrastructure, and/or developer tooling.
- Shipped infrastructure or tooling that measurably improved developer velocity or reduced cognitive load.
- Led the adoption of new AI-powered developer tools or capabilities across an engineering organization.
- Operated in a high-performing engineering organization, understanding how infrastructure choices impact velocity and quality.
- Experience integrating third-party services (APIs, SaaS tools, external platforms) with attention to reliability, security, and user experience.
- Clear understanding that platform and infrastructure work directly enables commercial outcomes.
- Experience owning large technical areas end-to-end.
