Stripe is seeking a Backend Engineer for its Core Technology team. This role involves working on critical tier0 infrastructure systems, including compute, networking, document databases, distributed caching, and high-assurance engineering. The team builds the foundational platform that enables Stripe products and services to operate at scale, driving reliability, availability, efficiency, and scalability. You will design, build, test, and ship high-quality code daily, contributing to a great customer experience for both internal and external Stripe teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and ship great code
- Build a great customer experience for internal and external Stripe teams using our infrastructure
- Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization
- Deliver value through collaboration with multiple customers and stakeholders across Stripe
- Debug production issues across services and several levels of the stack
Requirements
- Strong software engineering skills and a passion for core infrastructure, developer infrastructure, data infrastructure, admin platform, service platform, or developer productivity AI
- Ability to write high-quality code in languages like Go, Java, C/C++
- 2-12+ years of professional hands-on software development experience
- Experience writing well-factored algorithms and using common data structures
- Hands-on experience contributing to or building large-scale distributed systems
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across workstreams
- Customer obsession and ability to represent customer experience to drive outcomes
- Ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility
- Experience optimizing the end-to-end performance of distributed systems (preferred)
- Focus on the needs of users, both internal and external (preferred)
- High bar for working with production systems (preferred)
