Anthropic is building safe and beneficial AI systems, and the Billing Platform is critical to funding this mission by managing all commercial revenue. This role involves building and operating the infrastructure that processes product usage into revenue for services like Claude.ai and the Developer Platform. You will work on systems that handle pricing, charging, and revenue accounting, ensuring correctness and scalability. This is a production-critical role requiring close collaboration with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting teams to build robust financial infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end billing capabilities, including pricing, payment flows, contract models, and revenue data pipelines.
- Prioritize correctness and data integrity in system design, focusing on idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails.
- Develop and own interfaces, such as billing APIs and revenue datasets, that abstract complexity and maintainability.
- Make strategic build-vs-buy decisions regarding third-party billing and payment platforms.
- Manage and optimize the payments stack, including authorization rates, processing costs, dispute resolution, and fraud prevention.
- Reduce manual operational work by automating processes like contract amendments and pricing changes.
- Operate and maintain shipped systems, owning SLOs for customer-facing flows and ensuring pipeline accuracy.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams like Growth, Sales, Finance, and Product to meet diverse needs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building backend or platform systems in production.
- 3+ years of experience leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead.
- Proven ability to ship correct and maintainable systems in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Strong focus on correctness and data integrity as core design principles.
- Experience reasoning about systems where financial accuracy is paramount.
- Enjoyment of cross-functional collaboration and translating between different business domains.
