TrueMeter is building an AI Energy Agent to revolutionize how businesses pay for power, consolidating utility bills into a single, cheaper subscription. We've launched our MVP and are experiencing rapid growth, backed by top Silicon Valley investors. We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer (AI Applications) to join our early-stage team. This role involves building the backend systems that power our AI Energy Agent, integrating LLM-driven systems with data and APIs, and developing services to make AI practical in production. You will work closely with the CTO and other engineers to design scalable backend systems, ensuring speed, ownership, and pride in your work.
Responsibilities
- Build production systems that connect LLMs and coding agents with our data and product APIs.
- Design and deploy fast, secure microservices in Python (and optionally TypeScript).
- Build reliable connectors to energy company portals and public data sources.
- Help design the backend infrastructure for AI agents to read, reason, and act autonomously.
- Own systems that need to run 24/7 with low latency and high reliability.
- Ship CI/CD pipelines, logs, and metrics for visibility and maintainability.
- Collaborate with customer success and sales teams to translate real-world problems into technical abstractions.
Requirements
- 1+ year of experience building production backends or full-stack systems (Python, GCP or AWS infrastructure).
- AI-native mindset with experience integrating LLMs and tools like LangChain, OpenAI APIs, or custom agents.
- Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on ideas.
- Clear communication skills for explaining complex systems to technical and business teams.
- Independent execution and delivery of scoped work.
- Comfort with startup environments where priorities can shift.
- Impact-driven mindset, connecting code to customer outcomes and business metrics.
- Ambitious and willing to put in the work to build something significant.
