We are seeking a seasoned Product Designer to enhance the collaboration between design and engineering, focusing on building a world-class, agent-first design system. This role involves creating a system structured for both humans and AI agents to make consistent and effective design decisions. You will own the design quality, semantics, and product usefulness of the system, working closely with engineers who will manage the technical architecture and implementation. The goal is to improve design-engineering workflows, establish component craft and system coherence, develop a scalable semantic layer, drive adoption across the design organization, and implement robust documentation and QA processes, including AI-assisted checks.
Responsibilities
- Improve design and engineering workflows by addressing seams between functions with shared language, reduced redundant decisions, clearer handoffs, and faster shipping.
- Set the quality bar for components and patterns, pressure-testing them through building and prototyping, not just specification.
- Develop a semantic layer for component naming, usage rules, and decision guidance to ensure correct choices are easy for designers, engineers, and agents.
- Create standards and workflows to make design system adoption the default for teams and agents.
- Own usage documentation and quality check workflows, including AI-assisted checks for consistency, accessibility, and component usage.
- Build and evolve necessary components, prioritizing high-leverage gaps and testing them in real product work.
- Establish agent-first systems and workflows with rules and semantics to help humans and agents use the system correctly and efficiently.
- Set the operating cadence with design and engineering for a contribution and review rhythm that maintains system coherence and adoption.
Requirements
- 6+ years in product design with deep experience in design systems built on tokens, component APIs, and a single source of truth in code.
- Experience building a design system, contributing to components, patterns, tokens, governance, and adoption.
- Systems thinking ability, preferring to build tools used by many over individual features.
- Defensible taste and ability to articulate design choices.
- Clear communication and cross-functional drive, capable of writing rules and driving adoption across teams.
- Autonomy and end-to-end ownership, driving from problem identification to shipped and adopted solutions.
- Fluency with AI in design craft, with experience building repeatable workflows with AI/agents.
- Mindset focused on accessibility and scale across mobile and web.
- Comfort building or changing components in code (Swift/SwiftUI, Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, or web) is a plus.
- Experience shipping consumer-scale mobile products across many markets/locales is a plus.
- Experience building a design system that engineers actively used and that outlasted your tenure is a plus.
- A point of view on the future of design-to-code and agent workflows is a plus.
- Experience in language learning is a plus.
