Speak is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Platform & Infrastructure team. This role is pivotal during a transformative period in software development, focusing on agentic shifts. The team's mission is to empower all engineering teams at Speak by providing robust, self-serve infrastructure, sensible guardrails, and expert guidance. This ensures rapid, high-quality feature delivery while maintaining a state-of-the-art customer experience, impacting everything from application performance and reliability to developer productivity and security. The Engineering Manager will be a key driver in evolving towards agentic engineering, enabling autonomous, high-quality work through the systems and environments the team builds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, setting strong output and productivity expectations.
  • Contribute technically through coaching, leadership, and direct contributions like shipping projects and improving agent environments.
  • Drive the team's agentic engineering transformation by identifying manual processes and closing gaps.
  • Set the pace and drive velocity while maintaining a high quality bar.
  • Collaborate effectively with Product, Design, and other functions.
  • Proactively advocate for changes in shared infrastructure, tooling, and systems to enhance agentic capabilities across the organization.
  • Build and maintain a healthy, high-performing team culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of individual contributor software engineering experience on fast-paced, high-performance teams.
  • 4+ years of direct team management experience.
  • Strong background in backend, systems, platform/infrastructure, or performance engineering.
  • Deeply technical and proficient in using coding agents for development.
  • High agency and low ego.
  • Strong belief in the potential of agentic tools to increase engineering output.
  • Proven ability to drive velocity, uphold quality standards, and provide direct performance feedback.
  • Excited about working in-person in San Francisco 3-4 days per week.
