Scale is seeking a Software Engineer, Identity to join our Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and developing core platforms and software systems, with a specific focus on identity, access management, authorization, and authentication. You will gain broad exposure to the cutting edge of the AI industry as Scale supports enterprises, startups, and governments. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the foundational elements of products that power advanced LLMs and generative models, playing a crucial role in how humanity interacts with AI.
Responsibilities
- Drive the design and implementation of identity infrastructure for secure authentication and authorization.
- Manage authentication mechanisms like SSO, MFA, SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect.
- Manage authorization mechanisms such as ReBAC, ABAC, and RBAC.
- Collaborate with auditors and security teams to enforce identity governance policies and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Present technical information and provide guidance on identity management best practices to teams and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 4+ years of full-time engineering experience post-graduation, specializing in infrastructure and identity systems.
- Infrastructure expertise including IAM controls, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi), and microservice deployment.
- Hands-on experience with authorization frameworks like OpenFGA, Authzed, Cedar, or Topaz.
- Strong understanding of Zanzibar-based ReBAC models, relationship tuples, and access control evaluation.
- Strong knowledge of authentication standards including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and JWT.
- Extensive software development experience and deep understanding of distributed systems and public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Proven track record of independent ownership of successful engineering projects.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts.
