About the job

Skild AI is seeking a Research Engineer to join our post-training team. In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing Skild's foundation models and deploying them onto robots in real-world scenarios. You will collaborate with customers and utilize deployment data to ensure reliable robot behavior, focusing on safety, efficiency, and robustness under operational constraints. This position bridges the gap between strong lab performance and dependable customer deployments, defining the standard for scaling autonomous systems into global infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Research, post-train, and evaluate large deep learning models for robotic manipulation tasks.
  • Develop frameworks for continuous improvement of robot behaviors.
  • Collaborate with product teams to align technical requirements for on-site deployments.
  • Manage scenario setup, data collection, and the operational lifecycle for customer use-cases.
  • Maintain and ensure robots are deployment-ready, executing full-stack software and hardware deployments.
  • Build robust testing and evaluation pipelines for tracking model improvements and corner cases.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one deep learning library (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
  • Deep technical knowledge in computer vision and deep learning for robotics, including reinforcement and imitation learning.
  • Prior experience with large-scale model training.
  • Prior experience developing and deploying ML models or software on real robots.
  • Prior experience with ROS/ROS2 or other robotics middleware platforms.
  • Experience working with customers and deploying real-world robotics applications (bonus).
  • Experience leveraging LLMs to accelerate development and solve complex engineering problems (bonus).
