Sierra is building a platform to enable companies to create better, more human customer experiences with AI. We are seeking a Software Engineer for our Public Sector team to help redefine the relationship between the government and its citizens. This role involves designing and building production-grade AI agents for federal and state government institutions, partnering with industry leadership to scale our public sector offerings, and working directly with public sector customers to understand their needs and shape the future of AI agent development. Your work will directly influence the evolution of Sierra's core platform by surfacing unmet needs and prototyping new tools and features.
Responsibilities
- Design and build production-grade AI agents for government institutions.
- Partner with industry leadership to build the public sector team, including capture motion, market strategy, and product components.
- Collaborate with institutions to understand urgent needs and identify opportunities for expanded impact.
- Shape the future of the platform by surfacing unmet needs, prototyping new tools, and collaborating with research, product, and platform teams.
Requirements
- Full stack software development skills.
- Familiarity with AI development processes.
- Passion for public sector work and belief in the potential of institutions to transform outcomes.
- Comfort working directly with customers to understand needs and solve real-world problems.
- Experience building conversational or long-horizon agents using proprietary or open-source frameworks (even better).
- Demonstrated track record in ambiguous environments (e.g., founding team, new initiative) (even better).
- Prior understanding of government work, including procurement, regulation, and partnership patterns (even better).
